Latimer Continues Rebuilding Vital County Infrastructure with Hutchinson Valley Trunk Sewer Relocation Project.

(White Plains, NY) – Continuing his Administration’s commitment to fixing the County’s aging vital infrastructure, while creating jobs in the process, County Executive George Latimer is pleased to announce progress on the $1,020,000 Hutchinson Valley Trunk Sewer Relocation project in the Town of Eastchester.

This project will provide for the relocation of a section of sanitary sewer piping that is currently installed in the bed of the Hutchinson River, which has caused damaged to the pipe. The existing pipe is 12-inch cast iron and has deflected due to the impacts of the river.

Latimer said: “Fixing what is broken is a key part of what government representatives are elected to do, and keeping certain functions of County government operating - like sewers - are not always the most talked about fixes. But, this project is another example of leveraging tax dollars through smart capital projects aimed at mitigating future expensive issues.”

The pipe conveys approximately 5 million gallons of wastewater each day and must be replaced in order to protect the sewer system and the river.

Department of Environmental Facilities Commissioner Vincent Kopicki said: “The Latimer Administration is consistently working to upgrade and repair our facilities to ensure we can best serve the County’s residents. This project once again shows the dedication to that effort.”

The sewer will be rerouted by installing a new 16-inch ductile iron pipe outside of the stream bed utilizing a jack and bore technique to install the pipe with minimal excavation and disturbance.

A contract for this project has been awarded and the work is anticipated to begin in the spring when temperatures rise.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – January 13, 2022

WOMAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ATTEMPTING TO MURDER ELDERLY NEW ROCHELLE MAN SHE MARRIED TO ILLEGALLY OBTAIN CITIZENSHIP.

White Plains, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that Olivia Raimo was sentenced for using a straight razor to slit the wrist of a New Rochelle senior she married to illegally obtain U.S. citizenship.

Raimo, 30, was sentenced on January 13, 2022, to 15 years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision on her plea of guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a felony.

On January 24, 2020, while in the victim’s New Rochelle home, Raimo pushed the 74-year-old victim, wedging him between the toilet seat and a wall, and then slit his wrist with a straight razor. Upon arriving at the victim’s home, his home health aide, who was refused entry by Raimo, called the New Rochelle Police Department. The Police entered the home after they heard the victim screaming from the bathroom.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, where he underwent two surgeries to reattach the tendons in his arm. The attack resulted in the victim losing all function in his hand.

Raimo and the victim married in 2017. The incident happened after Raimo, who was not a citizen of the United States, and the victim met with an attorney to prepare for an interview with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to demonstrate their marriage was legitimate. During the meeting, they were informed that they would have a hard time passing their marriage interview.

New Rochelle Police arrested Raimo on February 11, 2020, following an investigation.

The case was before Judge Barry Warhit in Westchester County Court, and was prosecuted by Special Prosecutions Division Assistant District Attorney Charlotte Gudis.
